This game is called CrissCross because the opponents must cross each other's paths to reach their destinations at the other side of the playing grid. This version of the game lets you choose at the beginning of each game which pieces you will move — those at the top or those at the left edge of the grid. Once you select a piece to move you will only be able to move that type of piece for the remainder of that game.
Each piece is moved one square at a time. As you make a move your opponent, the computer, will make a counter move. The object is to move all of your pieces off the board at the opposite side of the grid. As the pieces leave the board they will disappear. When all a player's pieces have been moved off the board he or she has won the game. Of course, if the computer has beat you to it then the win goes to the computer.
There are a few more rules to mention. The pieces can never jump one another, either one's own pieces or the opponent's. Two pieces can never occupy the same square at one time. You will find that you can never move the pieces backwards. They can, however, be moved from side to side to move around an opponent.
You have the capability of increasing the complexity of the game by changing the size of the grid and adding obstructions to normal play. The SIZE button works like a rocker switch. Pressing one side increases the size of the grid. Pressing the other side of the button will decrease the grid size. Changes in size take place following the next use of the NEW GAME button.
The game also becomes more complex with the use of the RANDOM button which adds various holes in the grid which act to obstruct the normal movement of the pieces. These holes will appear in the grid following the next use of the NEW GAME key. By the way, you may request a NEW GAME at any time but be warned: If you press the NEW GAME key and a game is still in progress the computer will give itself another winning point in the belief that you are conceding the current game. That's only fair. Finally, the EXIT button takes you back to your desktop.
